UFC 151 Cancelled Update

Dan Henderson has a partial torn MCL and had to drop out of the fight. Chael Sonnen stepped up to take the fight on short notice, Jon Jones declined. Without a main event, the entire fight has been cancelled.

Now Jon Jones, who as said he isn’t interested in Machida will fight him on September 22nd. Greg Jackson called taking the fight against Sonnen on short notice, the biggest mistake Jones could make in his career.

Dana White called Greg Jackson “A fucking sport killer.”

This is the first UFC event cancelled in the Zuffa era. Also the first time a champion has declined a fight.

No timeline for Henderson’s return.

Update

Jon Jones refused to fight Chael Sonnen. You know the same guy who he’s been saying isn’t even in his league? Yeah him. So if Sonnen, who isn’t good enough steps up, and Jones “fights for money” why didn’t this happen?

Jones missed out on an opportunity to fight a name that would bring in more money than Henderson would have, and not fight Machida, who he doesn’t want to fight. From this conference call Jones seems like a difficult guy to work with. I wonder how quickly Nike goes back on this deal.

Chael Sonnen was dealing with his girlfriend’s father, who just had a stroke and took this fight, with no current training. Jones, who has been training says no? This doesn’t make sense, here’s hoping Machida destroys Jones on the new UFC 151 card in Toronto. I get the feeling that once Jones loses the title, he may get cut for this.

Dana just implied if Jones backs out of Machida fight, he’d get cut. Dana says Chael is company man, who is always ready to fight and he is the type of guy he respects and likes.
