In the least shocking news release of the year, Matt Kenseth’s deal with Joe Gibbs has been made official. He will be in the #20 Dollar General/Home Depot car, which he takes over from Joey Logano. Kenseth is going to be in the chase and will be a top competitor for the championship at the season’s end. Joe Gibbs Racing poached a top rate guy at the right time, coming off a top 10 season, which he’s bound to do barring complete catastrophe. Next year all eyes will be on the stable of JGR to send all three guys to the chase.
Logano will move to the #22 for Penske Racing, no word on the official sponsor. This change is needed for both the drivers and the owners who were looking to improve, or just change the way things are going for them.
The guys at Joe Gibbs Racing couldn’t have had better luck with finding such a high-caliber guy to take over for Joey, and Penske couldn’t have possibly hoped for a better guy to come in and fill the vacant shoes in the #22 left by Allmendinger’s failed drug test.
Speaking of top competitors it has also been confirmed that Elliott Sadler will not be back with Richard Childress Racing next season in the Nationwide series, with his biggest potential suitor being Joe Gibbs Racing, we see they’re taking the Yankees approach to spending for winning.
