Tonight the fights start early, 5 PM EST on Fuel TV, 8 PM EST on FX. I’m stoked as an east coaster, because I’ve got to work in the morning. Anyway the main card is filled with tons of great potential so skipping this one isn’t something one should consider.
Travis Browne vs. Antonio Silva
Travis Browne is getting closer to the top of the division, he’s still undefeated with one draw and a big win over “Bigfoot” could shoot him into the top 5 for sure. Silva on the other hand is coming off back to back losses and doesn’t seem to be getting any better. His win against Fedor will always make me like him, but I don’t see him getting past Browne tonight.
Browne by TKO round 2.
Jake Ellenberger vs. Jay Hieron
This is Hieron’s first UFC fight since 2005. In that time he has amassed a pretty good record, but he hasn’t fought any big names. Ellenberger on the other hand is a UFC mainstay and fights top competition every time, he’s coming off a TKO loss, but should bounce back. Hieron is a great fighter, and could take this fight as I truly think his odds in this one are 50/50. Ellenberger has the edge though.
Ellenberger by TKO round 3.
John Dodson vs. Jussier da Silva
This is the title eliminator for the flyweight division. John Dodson has looked impressive as of late and if he isn’t at the top of his game now, he will be soon. da Silva on the other hand is at the top of his game, his only loss was in 2011 to Ian McCall, who won by decision. da Silva has a better record and needs to win this fight more than Dodson does, for name recognition.
da Silva by submission round 2.
Josh Neer vs. Justin Edwards
How did this make it to the main card? Someone must have big pull with the UFC because there are too many fights on the undercard with better names.
I can’t waste my time with this fight. Neer decision.
UPDATE: Jeremy Stephens was arrested this morning. His fight with Yves Edwards on the undercard may not take place. This arrest comes from an out of state warrant of sorts, not a new charge.
He will fight, now.
Remember to follow @cedling on twitter during the fights. I’ll be a little late to the party, but will be there for the main and most of the undercard.
