After “The Big One” at Talladega last weekend, Dale Earnhardt Jr. suffered a concussion. It has been announced today that this will cause him to miss hte next two races, some people are suggesting that it may be even longer.
Earnhardt Jr. is currently 11th in points and barring a massive comeback has no real shot of winning the championship this year. By missing the next two races he has no chance of coming back. There will be an official press conference at 11 AM announcing that Regan Smith will be the replacement for the next two races, and presumably more information on the situation.
After the race he told members of the media that he hates racing at Talladega and Daytona, the two tracks that are always ripe for a big accident. Of course, Daytona is where his father died, although not in a multi car wreck. Maybe NASCAR will decide to forget what the fans say and let the cars race how they naturally can, it seems that the two car tandems were safer than pack racing. There’s no doubt that with an injury to their most popular driver, NASCAR will try to make sure it never happens again.
