UFC 153 Predictions

Let’s not waste any time this event.

Anderson Silva vs. Stephan Bonnar

I think Anderson Silva really wants to finish Bonnar in fashion. Brazil would love it, and it would help his case for a fight with GSP. However, as I mentioned here Bonnar has a shot. He’s bigger than recent opponents of Silva and will have that big advantage. Bonnar isn’t some new chump, and he’s smart enough to know that it’s going to have to be the fight of his life to beat Sliva.

My head says Silva by TKO in round 2. My heart says Bonnar by TKO in round 3. My head is usually the smarter of the two.

Dave Herman vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

I have Big Nog pulling this one off quite easily. Herman is good, but he’s on a losing streak. I don’t see the hype behind Herman, he has one win in the UFC.

Nogueria by Sub round 1.

Fabio Maldonado vs. Glover Teixeira

Teixeria is the guy everyone is scared shitless to fight, Maldonado is the guy people line up to fight. It’s pretty amazing that Maldonado gets this shot at such a big name. Glover needs to win this very impressively in order to get his name up mixed in with the casual fans who will be watching to see Silva and Bonnar.

Teixeira by TKO round 1.

Jon Fitch vs. Erick Silva

There’s something about Jon Fitch that I love. That something is his unwillingness to change. He presents outstanding wrestling and uses it to control the fight and win. Silva is great, but he hasn’t fought a wrestler like Fitch yet, a guy who takes you down and properly smothers you until moving becomes impossible.

Jon Fitch by decision.

Phil Davis vs. Wagner Prado

The first fight has people or “analysts” saying that Davis needed to wrestle more. That would be a wonderful thought if the fight lasted longer than 88 seconds. Prado is a good fighter who definitely had Davis’ number early last time, but that fight was just getting started. This time around I see Davis coming out and being much more protective in the opening minute, waiting til he gets a shot and taking it.

Davis by decision.

Demian Maia vs. Rick Story

Demian Maia is one of those guys who takes one step forward and then takes one step right back. Sure he won his last fight, but that was by what many people consider a fluke TKO. Honestly, if he knows how to pop ribs out on his throws that’s amazing. Story is a guy who wins and loses in decision fights. Going three rounds with Maia will be beneficial for Story, who will have the advantage in the later rounds.

Story by decision.
